Updated April 17 with details of iPhone 16 Pro Max deals and prices from rival store Best Buy.
Amazon’s Renewed Premium is a good way to score a good-quality refurbished iPhone, for instance, at a price a lot lower than new.
Amazon’ promises quality control, variety of options and a warranty. Less common is access to the very latest models of the iPhone.
Apple iPhone 16 Pro
Right now, that’s what Amazon has, with multiple storage sizes and all colors available for both the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max — spoiler, the 16 Pro deals are better. The Amazon deals are also better than rival Best Buy is currently offering for refurbished, but I’ve researched these, too, so you don’t have to.
Right now, Amazon is offering the iPhone 16 Pro at reduced prices in Renewed Premium. What’s more, the prices include unlocked models, which is another rarity, as you often have to pick a carrier that you’re happy to be tied to. Currently, the prices are lower than items locked to carriers in some cases. Here’s what’s on offer.
The deals highlighted in this post were independently selected by the Contributor and do not contain affiliate links.
Here's the link for the iPhone 16 Pro offers in unlocked Renewed Premium condition. Let’s start with the model with 128GB storage. This normally costs $999: that’s the price you’d pay at Apple in brand new condition. Here, in Renewed Premium, it’s already $100 off, regularly selling for $899. Now, it’s $855, that’s a 5% reduction or $44 off the Renewed Premium price, or $144 off the new price. Choose from black titanium and desert titanium at this price. Natural titanium is $869.97, so a little less of a bargain and white titanium even less so, at $874.97, though still decent compared to the new prices.
Move up to the 256GB storage ($1,099 new in unlocked condition from Apple) and black titanium is $979, which is $120 off the new price), and white titanium almost as good at $979.97. Natural titanium is $989.97 and desert titanium is $984.97.
Choose 512GB storage (regularly $1,299 unlocked and new) and the discount is bigger, including one that’s dropped further in recent hours. That’s for the white titanium which is now $1,100, almost $200 off the price new from Apple, and $99.97 off the Renewed Premium price. Natural titanium is $1,130, desert titanium is $1,139.99 and black titanium is $1,149.99.
As a comparison, Best Buy, which also has a pre-owned section, has a consistent price across all four colors, but none of them matches Amazon (Best Buy link here for iPhone 16 Pro). The 128GB storage model is available for $949.99, a $49.01 drop from the new price. This condition is called “Pre-Owned Excellent” by Best Buy.
Similarly, the 256GB model in the same Pre-Owned Excellent condition is also reduced, but not by as much as Amazon. It’s $1,049.99, again for all four colors. And the 512GB storage model costs $1,199.99, that is $99.01 less than the full price new. Again, Amazon’s prices are better.
For people wanting to enjoy the bigger screen real estate of the iPhone 16 Pro Max, there are some discounts to be had here too, though, frankly, they’re not quite as eye-catching.
The iPhone 16 Pro Max (link here) has 256GB as its smallest storage level. Buy that new from Apple and it costs $1,299. Amazon Renewed Premium has it, unlocked, for $1,179.97 for black titanium, and $1,164.97 for the white titanium option. At less than $20 or $35 off the new price, that’s not an easy recommend. A little better is the natural titanium, $1,129.97 or the desert titanium price, $1,124.97.
Choose the 256GB storage option (price new: $1,399) and you’ll find black titanium, desert titanium and natural titanium for $1,299.97, which is just over $99 off the new price and $65 off the regular Renewed Premium price of $1,364.97. White titanium is more: $1,314.97.
Finally, 1TB storage is yours for a tiny discount. Price new is $1,599 but here it’s just $24.03 less than that at $1,574.97. You’re might as well go to Apple and buy it new.
When it comes to the iPhone 16 Pro Max in pre-owned condition from Best Buy, Pre-Owned Excellent is also an option but right now, it’s sold out. As a guide, the 256GB storage model had been available for $1,149.99, which beats Amazon’s pricing, but it’s listed as sold out on the site right now — here’s the link in case that changes.
Best Buy does at least offer trade-in options, so you can save on a brand-new iPhone 16 Pro or Pro Max. But you do need to choose between AT&T and Verizon to buy the phone, rather than choosing it in unlocked condition.
At a time when exactly how tariffs will hit iPhone prices, thanks to the reliability of Amazon’s Renewed Premium quality, the discounts here, for the iPhone 16 Pro, at least, make for tempting buys.
And if prices really are going to go up for the iPhone, though that’s not certain at the moment, then at least the discount that refurbished phones offer will be of some comfort.
